Island of spices
Zanzibar is an island in the archipelago of the same name. It is located in the Indian Ocean – the warmest of the three oceans, separated by 25-50 km from the vertical land. The historical center of the capital of Zanzibar to Stone Town (stone city) included in the UNESCO list. The impressive atmosphere of this place, a 19th-century palace, fragrant stalls and crowded bazaars. It was here in 1946 that Freddie Mercury, the leader of the band Queen, was born as Farrokh Bulsara.
Already during colonial times, Zanzibar was famous for its export of cloves. Today this spice is available in the world. Nutmeg, black pepper, saffron, vanilla, cinnamon and many other aromatic plants are also grown. That’s why it is called the Spice Island.
